Happy New Year... at Diwali

Public service announcement: Do not watch George Clooney's Ocean's Eleven right before you go see Shah Rukh Khan's Happy New Year. It doesn't help!

Watched Happy New Year, directed by Farah Khan (who, for the record, is someone I think is immensely talented), and starring the obvious.

This film does not really need a review, cause you're gonna go see it anyway :) as are some 500 Crore others! So here instead, is a list of things i learnt from it...

  1. Shah Rukh Khan likes taking his shirt off.
  2. Sonu Sood also likes taking his shirt off.
  3. Abhishek Bachchan also (surprisingly) likes taking his shirt (and other things) off.
  4. Epileptic seizures are an incurable condition.
  5. ...So is projectile vomiting (and of equally little concern)
  6. Some Indian actors (male and female) can act in the absence of a script, dialogues and/ or direction.
  7. Indians don't do anything unless driven by patriotism, emotional atyaachaar or both, in good measure.
  8. A film does not have to be perfect (or anywhere in the same ball park as perfect) for you to enjoy it :)

Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan (together and otherwise) have made better films, and i sincerely hope that the success of this film does not deter him/her from making them in the future.

Haider

Watched ‪#‎Haider‬, a hindi adaptation of William Shakespeare's ‪#‎Hamlet‬..., that stays quite true to the original
So technically you could just go read that, and some will argue that it might be better... but then you would miss out on a wonderful retelling of a story about revenge, uncertainty and conflict of action that ‪#‎VishalBhardwaj‬ brings to the place where it possibly applies the most in India...‪#‎Kashmir‬

The movie makes you realise how little you know about Kashmir, and how conflicted that 'little' is.

It is a tragedy, and so is Haider.

Bang Bang

Watched ‪#‎HrithikRoshan‬  (that's the truth serum talking :p) ‪#‎BangBang‬ is a hindi remake of Knight and Day...starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz....that stays quite true to the original.
So technically you could just go watch that, but then you would be missing out on the Gorgeous Perfection that is Mr Roshan! Those green-brown pools of gloriousness that are his eyes, or his beautiful smile, or the fact that he was born to ‪#‎dance‬! And thankfully there's enough of him to make it worth your while :)) but that's about it.

Khoobsurat

Watched ‪#‎Khoobsurat‬ tonight and I have 2 words to sum it up.. ‪#‎FawadKhan‬  (yeah yeah, I'm married! But so is he, and he started it!!) That baritone voice (sigh)! Smouldering good looks. Those puppy dog eyes!! And the fact that he can act??! (I know, it's too much)
There's also ‪#‎SonamKapoor‬, and a super talented supporting cast but I assure you you'll barely notice  Lots of laughs and so much drooling/sighing

Daawat - e - ishq

You have to a be a pretty big fan of ‪#‎ParineetiChopra‬‪#‎AdityaRoyKapoor‬ ‪#‎AnupamKher‬ or ‪#‎alllthree‬ to go see this film, cause they're all quite good! Especially considering what they have to work with!!
Especially Mr Roy Kapoor, who manages to *wow* despite
  1. the presence of a handle bar moustache,
  2. the absence of any Lucknow in his accent,
  3. few forgettable dialogues and
  4. very little in the name of footage...
the boy has talent (and he's gorgeous...even with the fuzz!)
So here's the thing! You don't need to play down the male lead to make your heroines shine... you really should do the opposite. That's what the good ‪#‎YashRaj‬ films did.

Finding Fanny

Watched it on day 1! That's the good news.
In Hindi. That's the other
I'm glad that the Indian film industry _can _ make a film like this though and also that someone did. What is missing can very simply be summed up in the difference between 'cha' and 'cha' as pronounced by a goan, and everyone else... In short, the attention to detail.
Mr ‪#‎NaseerudinShah‬ rocks more than usual.

Kick

If you feel the need to post a status update during the film it's either so brilliant or so beyond boring! Guess which one? ‪#‎kick‬
Finally watched ‪#‎kick‬ (but you already knew that) and there's just one thing I've learnt from this film... Whether you believe the reviews or not is not really important, just never believe the promos!*
Also, why aren't the guys being sued by the Indian Academy of Psychiatrists or Poland???!

This should have been a love story between khan and hooda. He looks MUCH better, can act and most importantly he has chemistry! ‪#‎kick‬ ‪#‎kickingmyself‬
